The following story illustrates how TIC helped a client in her hour of need.
Traveller: Doreen
Location: Malaga, Spain Total claim amount: R489 428
Doreen travelled to Malaga with the intention of enjoying a relaxing holiday in the sun. Unfortunately, after spending only one day in the Spanish port
city on the Mediterranean Sea, she slipped on the marble steps outside the apartment where she was staying and fell, breaking her ankle in two places.
Says Doreen, "A woman who was walking along the pavement next to where I'd fallen called an ambulance. I was travelling on my own, so I had no one on
hand to call for assistance. I was rushed to hospital and after they verified that I had travel insurance with sufficient medical cover, my ankle was
operated on. I spent 14 days in hospital in total, and was impressed with both the helpful staff as well as with how clean and spotless the hospital was.
TIC's assistance company stayed in regular contact with me, and when I was well enough, I flew home in business class, accompanied by a nurse. An ambulance
was waiting for me at the airport when we arrived in Johannesburg and I was taken straight to a local hospital, accompanied by the nurse.
I have no words to express how grateful I am to TIC. I have always travelled with medical insurance, but this is the first time I've ever had need of
it. I tell everyone I know how essential travel insurance is. I was fit and well when I travelled overseas but you never know what could happen. I thank
TIC from the bottom of my heart for all their help, and I recommend them to everyone."
